Vernon Hotel & Tavern -- Circa 1895 The Vernon Inn -- 2004
History: Built c. 1833 by John Vandegriff, this hotel and tavern has remained in operation since it's doors first opened in Vernon Township. For many years during both the 19th & 20th Centuries it served not only as a tavern and hotel, but as a gathering place for public meetings, assemblies, sheriff sales, etc. In 1936 the inn suffered a devastating fire when a squirrel knocked over a kerosene lamp in the attic and was extensively rebuilt. In later years it was known as Gary's Vernon Tavern, but was closed briefly in 2002 when the owner passed away (not on the premises). It was purchased in early 2003 and once again extensively remodeled. It finally reopened in October 2003 as The Vernon Inn.
Paranormal Activity Reported:
Employees have reported lights turning on and off by themselves, doors
opening and closing on their own, and shadowy figures moving about the
building. Most recently, both the owner and one of the bartenders
witnessed a male apparition wearing a full-length teal colored coat walk
across the dining area and vanish.
Summation: This investigation
was conducted at an unusual hour of the
morning. While there was very little paranormal activity observed
during the investigation, we did manage to capture several positive photos
and an EVP of a child's voice (see below). There were no children present during
this investigation. *MikeH, *Chris R, *Raul M, * = TSPR Trainee CLICK PICTURES TO VIEW FULL SIZE
